Island Paradise Development History

A private development holding company bought the island from private owners whose family had been there/owned it for 100 years when the island was finally put up for sale. The development company received development grants from various countries to sensitively and ecologically develop the island. A bad economy caused the developer to be unable to finish the development plan. Some investors and board members of White Global holding corps. saw potential and financed the purchase and continued the development. The island is owned by a subsidiary corp. of White Global holdings. The island is a freehold island which gives the company fee simple title and complete autonomy.

The main island's lush vegetation has been preserved with cabins and multiple dwellings interspersed. There are many common areas with trails, paths and 'recreation'/exhibition areas. Ring roads are actually maintained paths for electric vehicles/trams, the only source of land transport on the island other than by foot. The main marina and docks are in a protected cove on east shore at mid island with offshore anchorage plus an additional semi sheltered cove on a bay on the southwest side of the island. Sandy beaches are located at numerous places along the shoreline.

There are several "common" areas with areas for outdoor gatherings, shows/exhibitions, etc. The hotel/resort area also has two exhibition halls, bars, small storefronts/merchants/kiosks, a medical clinic, spa, recreation center, etc. Stables/kennels are scattered among the residential area of the island and can provide horses, dogs, pigs, chickens, cattle and ducks, as desired. Some areas have been set off for farming & gardening, although the smaller sister island is used for most food or cash crops.

Ecologically Sensitive Development

Micro Hydro power plant: wave/tidal energy on one end of the island drives a combination of Archimedes screws/pistons/oneway valves that pump water up a pipeline on 150-200 ft volcanic knoll/hill on one end of island to a small reservoir. Penstock pipeline(s) run down the hill to micro hydro generators, which generate electricity. A few freshwater sources such as creeks are also used for microhydro generators and provide freshwater for distillation/reverse osmosis filtration. Electric distribution to buildings, dwellings and cabins is by underground cables.

All cabins and villas have running potable water from large storage tanks fed by solar distillation, RO stills and rainwater, also some common freshwater wells. Solar power is used for auxiliary uses such as cooling/air conditioning units, RO stills, etc.

Composting toilets are used throughout, with no sewers. Gray water drains into dry wells or is used for irrigation for crops. Garbage is composted; non-compostables are incinerated at an island facility on the far end of island which also provides some electrical generation. Cabins have mostly low voltage equipment/appliances, gas for cooking. Heating is not really required due to the favorable climate, experiencing typical average temps of 25-30 deg C/77-86 deg F most of the year.

Major infrastructure buildings have been built to withstand a cat 4 hurricane & are earthquake proof; the majority of infrastructure utilities are underground or earth covered/bermed; although the island is on the edge of the hurricane belt, it hasn't been hit by one for over 50 years. Two seasons are dry and rainy. Beach water temps are about 5-10 deg F below air temps. Most separate living structures (cabins/cabanas) are replaceable if a hurricane strikes, so there is no need for "heavy" hurricane proofing of other than major infrastructure buildings, such as the resort, IT and banking buildings.

Technological Infrastructure

High speed/bandwidth microwave connections between the island and nearby (7-10 mi. line of sight) Queensville, a city on the next major large island in the chain, provides communications, as well as satellite uplinks. The company owns its own IP block and all on and off island data communications are heavily encrypted and secure. Island based servers provide total privacy/security through proxies, as well as VOIP connectivity, worldwide telephone & video, among all White's companies and subsidiaries globally. Each building and dwelling is connected by high speed fiber, has wifi, VOIP telephone and video conferencing, and video streaming.

On the highest point of the island are located microwave and cell towers. Cell phone coverage covers the island and surrounding waters. Also there's radar located there so the surrounding area can be monitored for all approaching vessels.

Privacy and Security

No non-island vessels are allowed to approach without permission or invitation and providing identification of all parties. The company security force, which is the legal police authority for the island and its surrounding waters, deals quite severely with any criminal activities, and pirates or criminal organizations have been quick to realize that the island ownership will not tolerate even minor infractions. The island and the surrounding waters is one of the safest and securest places on the globe and vessels in transit to and from the island displaying the Paradise Island pennant are given wide berth and safe passage.

Reporters, photographers, investigators, spies, paparazzi or such are not tolerated and are specifically barred from the island, its waters and airspace for the assurance of the utmost in privacy for our friends, guests and employees. Since the security force is the controlling legal authority, encroachments of the property, surrounding waters and airspace are handled in the severest manner, including sinking of trespassing vessels and downing of encroaching aircraft. Survivors, if any, will be transported to the island nation government facility for adjudication by its courts, and no extradition is possible.
